From ACS to Curtin Singapore

Hello Reader,

Allow me to share a snippet of my academic path and experiences that shaped my journey.

Early Education: The Foundation Years

I began my educational journey at Anglo-Chinese School (ACS), known for its international exposure and ranking amongst other schools. I spent a decade at ACS, transitioning from Primary to Secondary within the Normal Academic (NA) Stream.

Embracing Technical Education

After completing my N levels, I chose to take the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) route. I enrolled in the NITEC course in Chemical Process Technology and graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Faced with a choice between an internship in Germany and one with Procter and Gamble (P&G), I opted for the latter. I interned at the Tuas Perfumery Plant, gaining valuable industry exposure.

This achievement opened doors to direct polytechnic admissions, a significant milestone in my academic journey.

Polytechnic Days: Exploring Applied Chemistry

Reviewing the available courses, I decided to pursue Applied Chemistry, specializing in Material Science with Singapore Polytechnic. I only realized that it was a single digit O-level entry requirement at a later date. Despite the academic challenges, I persevered and successfully graduated.

I did my internship with P&G again, this time at the Innovation Centre. This experience deepened my exposure to the corporate world.

Switching to a Different Major

I was given the opportunity to participate in an Overseas Social Innovation Project (OSIP), which was the turning point. Working with a team of students from different faculties to solve a farmer's dilemma was both rewarding and enjoyable. Reviewing the process of understanding his pain points, the associated concerns, and possible questions that the audiences or the boss might ask, it was an exciting journey.

Transition to Higher Education: Curtin Singapore

Inspired by my experiences and keen on expanding my horizons, I decided to pursue a degree in Supply Chain and Marketing at Curtin Singapore with an exchange semester at Curtin University.

I did my internship at Zuellig Pharma Specialty Solutions Group, where I gained insights into the pharmaceutical supply chain.

Embracing Cultural Diversity at Curtin

One of the most enriching aspects of my time at Curtin Singapore and Curtin University has been the exposure to diverse cultures. At Curtin Singapore, I interacted with students from China, Indonesia, Vietnam, and many other countries. This multicultural environment allowed me to learn from different perspectives and traditions.

Similarly, my exchange semester at Curtin University in Australia introduced me to students from Australia, Mauritius, Malaysia, China, and beyond. These interactions broadened my understanding of global cultures and enhanced my ability to work in a diverse, international environment. This wide range of cultural exposure has been instrumental in shaping my personal and professional growth.

Conclusion

Reflecting on my academic journey, each step has been a learning experience, shaping my career aspirations and professional growth. From ACS to Curtin Singapore, every phase has contributed to my development, preparing me for a dynamic career in logistics and supply chain management. The exposure to diverse cultures at Curtin Singapore and Curtin University has particularly enriched my understanding and appreciation of global perspectives, which I believe will be invaluable in my future career.

Thank you for reading my story. I hope it inspires you to embrace your journey with determination and passion.
